Steve is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Marketing and Managment at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Prior to this role, he was a Professor of Marketing at Monash University and a Professor of Marketing – Financial Services at Staffordshire University in the UK.

Steve specialises in the issues surrounding the distribution of financial services (particularly by electronic channels) and in the organisation and control of the payments systems through which these transactions are carried out.

Steve’s research has been published widely, both in academic journals such as the International Journal of Bank Marketing and the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, and in more practitioner focused publications such as The Financial Times, The Australian Financial Review, Payment Cards and Mobile Banking.

He has also written a number of case studies and text book chapters concerning both bank and retailer provision of financial services, and is a regular contributor to The Conversation and to ANZ Bank’s thought leadership BlueNotes series.

A frequent presenter/chairman at industry conferences, Steve is also used by the media as an independent commentator on the delivery of financial services to consumers and he has been involved in Banking Inquiries set up by governments in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

In 2013 he completed a commissioned paper for the Australian Centre for Financial Studies on Regulatory Interventions and their Consequences in the Australian Payment System. He has also researched and published on the payment card markets in China and Japan and acted as an Expert Witness in cases involving the marketing of financial services.
